People talk a lot about “shopping your closet,” but sometimes that phrase can feel a little overused. How exactly do you remix your outfit?
You know me, I like to boss my clothes around, so I thought it would be fun to showcase this same blouse yet styled in many different ways (not just with different color combinations, but that’s part of it too).

Reworking a clothing piece is not new around here.
I believe it’s a fabulous way to:
-Make your closet bigger
-Save you Money
-Create new brain pathways by trying new things
In fact, you can revisit many older articles centered around this same idea:

The best part is being part of my community, where we inspire and lift each other up.
The shirt itself is linen, so it comes across as casual. The background color is peach, and it has these embroidered sunbursts that are mustard gold, orange, and darker pink.
I will give a quick color scheme description in each ‘remix your outfit’ paragraph.
My blouse is not available anymore, but I found other linen ones in different colors in the widget below (also included are secondhand options–check the 2nd widget photo):
I also saw this colorful beauty that is all cotton.

Let’s start with a layered option. Because the weather is warm right now, I’m only showing the top layered under a vest.
But in reality, you can easily layer it under sweaters, other tops, or jackets.
This is perfect for so many reasons.
1-Vests are a huge trend right now.
2-You can cover any wrinkles in the body of the shirt.
3-Also great if you happen to have gaping with the buttons.
Color Scheme: With denim and pink

This is one of my forever favorites.
Instead of treating your blouse like a top, treat it like a lightweight layer. We’ve done this with white blouses long ago, and it works with any buttoned blouse.
It instantly feels more relaxed, as well as gives you that “third piece” magic in a laid-back way.
Color Scheme: With darker colors and print mixing with footwear and a belt.

Instead of buttoning it traditionally, think about it differently. In fact, in the past, I created a video buttoning this same blouse the wrong way.
This time, I just crossed the front panels over each other and made the blouse into a wrap top.
This idea creates a shape where there wasn’t any before and gives you a more fitted silhouette.
Color Scheme: Lighten it with white and print mix with shoes.

Tying the front ends is an easy and fun way to casualize your blouse.
Instead of tying a knot as usual, I created a knot on one side only, and then tucked the other end through that knot.
This method creates a little less bulk.
This idea to remix your outfit adds interest and can feel less perfect than a tucked shirt.
Notice that I tucked the collar under so as not to interfere with the statement necklace.
Color Scheme: Worn with metallics and another print with my shoes.

Trying an option like this creates an asymmetrical look.
I covered the top 3 buttons with brooches, and the last brooch is an open shape, so I pulled one front panel of the blouse through it.
Now you’ve got asymmetry, uniqueness, and a look that feels completely custom.
Stylist tip: You can do a similar idea by placing a safety pin on the side seam or anywhere along that horizontal line, and pulling the end through the same way.
Notice that I pulled the collar together to create more of a turtleneck feel.
Color Scheme: A silky burgundy (which gives a more luxurious feel).

This was a true origami experiment.
I threaded a necklace chain through the sleeves and put it on backwards. This created a ruched scoop neckline in the front, and then I tied the ends around my waist in the back. (Yes, I could have futzed with the neck area more, but you get the idea.)
This transforms the blouse into something that feels almost like a different garment entirely.
Stylist tip: This option needs a backless bra, and my 2 faves are boob tape (this one is wider than the ones I used to use and thus gives more coverage) and Cakes (which are reusable).
It’s creative, a little bold, and such a good reminder that clothes don’t have to stay in their original lane.
Color Scheme: Overall print mixing with camo and adding metallics with shoes and belt.

For the final outfit remix, I created a wrap from the blouse.
Stylist trick: Notice that I also tucked the collar under so it’s not standing up.
Take the last button and button it behind you to make it more of a shrug instead of a blouse.
You still have coverage for your arms and behind, but it doesn’t overwhelm the front of your look.
Color Scheme: Muted neutrals yet print mixing with scarf and shoes.

This isn’t just about one blouse.
It’s about shifting how we see our clothes.
Because I believe that you don’t always need new clothes, you just need a different perspective on how to wear them.
Sometimes that means pairing them with different colors, but it can also mean origami-ing it.
For instance, like I’ve shown in these examples of unbuttoning it, twisting it, and tying it. Basically bossing your clothes to work in varied ways.
The takeaway is that many details of a button-down (like this one) can be changed. Not only can you change up the buttons and how you use the front panels, but the collar can be varied, PLUS you can layer it in many ways.
