Health and
mobility challenges don’t isolate seniors, unfriendly environments do. A
crosswalk with too little time, a bus stop with no bench, or a community hall
with poor acoustics can become barriers that keep older adults at home.
Age-Friendly
Communities offer a practical blueprint. Safer crossings, more seating, clear
signage, and accessible programming aren’t luxuries, they are essential
supports that allow seniors to remain active and engaged.
This month, walk one block of your neighbourhood
with “senior eyes.” Notice where the gaps are. Bring one practical change
forward at your next council, committee, or board meeting. Small improvements
can unlock big participation.
