Earlier this year, Untested’s own Gina Barton and Det. Annie Harrison of Michigan’s Ingham County Sheriff’s Office headed to Dallas, Texas, for a conference called Podcast Movement. There, they led a session sharing how they met, how they grew to trust each other and how they made the show. Along the way, they shared tips and tricks for how law enforcement and journalists could learn from each other to become better interviewers.
As a little holiday treat for Untested listeners, here’s the recording of their talk provided by the fine folks at Podcast Movement.

Gina Barton is an investigative reporter who has been covering criminal justice issues since 2002. Her reporting on lax oversight of police officers and deaths in police custody helped prompt a first-of-its-kind state law that requires independent investigations of all officer-involved deaths. Gina is the reporter, producer and host of the national Edward R. Murrow Award-winning podcast Unsolved and the author of the true crime book Fatal Identity. She has won numerous national journalism awards, including the George A. Polk Award, an IRE certificate and a Casey Medal.
