Donald Trump is out to establish a New World Order in the Western Hemisphere by creating a Soviet-style system of government that would make Central and South American countries subservient to the will of America. The release of the National Security Strategy of 2025 describes how he plans to use tariffs and threats of military intervention to force the countries of the Western Hemisphere to submit to American rule or face the consequences.
While his name is repeated throughout, it’s highly unlikely he had much input. Instead, the document reads like the blueprint outlined in Project 2025. Contained within the document are White Christian Nationalist phrases like “God-given” and the racist dog whistle, “separate but equal”. Many of the policies proposed in this document are straight from the pages of Project 2025.
While much of the document is devoted to the typical MAGA propaganda, there are specific sections that are highly concerning. The laughable claim that America is respected once again smacks in the face of reality as world leaders see Trump as a buffoon. Instead, European countries have met without United States representation to plot a world that doesn’t envision US participation.
To counter this, the document proposes abandoning NATO and creating a new vision of Europe that will bow to American supremacy. It paints an image of Europe as a single entity and not separate nations. It asserts that Europe is in danger of losing its “whiteness” due to the dramatic influx of immigrants. It addresses Europe in a condescending manner, indicating it is in need of the type of guiding democratic principles that only America can provide.
When it comes to the war in Ukraine, the document states that it can only be settled with “significant U.S. diplomatic engagement”. As we have seen, the peace proposal offered by the United States heavily favors Russia, so this is a non-starter.
The Monroe Doctrine was articulated in President James Monroe’s seventh annual message to Congress on December 2, 1823. The European powers, according to Monroe, were obligated to respect the Western Hemisphere as the United States’ sphere of interest.
In other words, Monroe demanded an end to colonization in the Western Hemisphere. He also declared that the US would not interfere with the policies of South and Central American countries, to allow them to thrive as they see fit, but to hopefully follow the American example of a democracy.
And many countries in the Western Hemisphere did follow the American model to establish stable democracies. Like our own history, there was certainly some backsliding as some rulers established dictatorships, but all in all, democratic governments became the norm in this part of the world.
The policy remained in place until 1904 when the Roosevelt Corollary sought to assert American dominance over countries in the Caribbean, and Central and South America. One of its major achievements was the seizure of land in Panama, which led to the building of the Panama Canal. It still forbade European colonization as Roosevelt used his “Big Stick” approach to foreign affairs with Europe.
American dominance over the region continued until it was replaced by another Roosevelt. In his inaugural address FDR’s Good Neighbor Policy of 1933 declared “No state has the right to intervene in the internal or external affairs of another”. While this remained largely true, there were some notable exceptions including Cuba, Nicaragua, Edl Salvador and Panama, which saw the United States using covert means to impact the governments of other countries.
All of that is about to change with the introduction of the Trump Corollary. Sifting through the convoluted language, the aim of this policy is to establish a Soviet-style presence in the Western Hemisphere, with the United States at the center of it all. It claims it will enlist other nations in the region to ensure border Security, enhance American defenses and defeat drug cartels that destabilize legitimate governments.
Which brings into focus many of the actions the administration has taken since their return to office:
Make no mistake, the Trump Corollary is his attempt at empire building. By creating a region that is totally dominated by the United States, Trump hopes to create an empire like Stalin’s Soviet Union or Hitler’s Third Reich. It will be his New World Order.
