I Love playing with fashion and beauty, but the caveat is that it needs to make sense for my life. Over the years, I’ve heard many women say, “I stopped wearing eyeshadow.” And I get it! Which is one reason I wanted to share these 2 clean beauty eyeshadows for mature eyes.
Quote of the day: Don’t be ‘most people.’” Unknown
Our skin changes, and our eyelids can become more textured. Makeup formulas that worked when we were 30 may not always flatter us as we age.
I’ve gradually reduced the amount of makeup that I use daily, but I still like to cover up the blueness of the blood vessels that are evident if I don’t wear any eyeshadow.
Since I’m trying to use more toxic-free products (in italics because I’m not perfect), I thought I’d share my two favorite eyeshadows for mature eyes.

I’ve been a makeup girl ever since high school. It’s no surprise since I grew up seeing my mom at her makeup vanity table every morning.
Or as we always joke: The nut doesn’t fall far from the tree.
I’ve written other makeup articles, including the idea of if makeup really makes you look better, plus:
–mineral foundation
–all day lipstick
–blush
–tubing mascara
Finding non-toxic products has been my priority lately, so I was happy to be able to share two clean eyeshadows for mature eyes.
Pro tip: I look for eyeshadows that don’t need a primer to stay crease-free all day long. In the past, I have used a primer, but I like the idea of using fewer products now.
Both of these stay crease-free for me all day long. But let’s not forget that I have dry skin and live in an arid environment.
It’s easy to write off an entire brand after trying one thing you didn’t love, but that’s not really fair, is it? Just as with clothing, where I may not adore every piece from Chico’s yet still find items that fit my style beautifully, the same goes for beauty products.
Every brand has hits and misses depending on your preferences, your skin type, or even your mood that day. For instance, I’ve tried products from certain clean beauty lines that didn’t wow me. Then I discovered another formula from the same brand that has become a daily favorite.
It’s a good reminder to stay open-minded.

I used to think skipping eyeshadow would simplify my routine. When I looked in the mirror, my eyelids looked a little tired. The thin skin on our lids naturally becomes more translucent over time, which means blood vessels and redness start to show through.
So, for me, eyeshadow isn’t just about color, it’s coverage.
Even if I’m not doing a full face of makeup, I will at least use my mineral foundation over my eyelids to create an even skin tone. You can see the difference in the photo above.
Usually, once I do that step, I take the extra two minutes to add some eyeshadow. My latest favorite is creating a slanted line, and then I dab some glitter over the middle where my pupil would be (glitter not shown in the photo below).
But heck, did you notice the difference with the eyebrows? That’s the microblade effect brow pen I recently discussed in my email. Use code Jodie20 for a discount.

I discovered Root Clean Beauty while scrolling Facebook when Root Clean was having its anniversary sale.
I’ve tried many of their products, and right now, their loose eyeshadow is one of my favorite eyeshadows for mature eyes.
BTW, they do have pressed eyeshadow too. The loose type was part of their sale items, which is why I chose it. But I’d buy it again.
The texture is silky, not powdery, and it glides over mature lids beautifully without settling into lines. I like to tap a bit into the lid, use a small brush, and softly sweep it over my eyelid.
You can also press it on with your finger for more color payoff…But I think that’s too messy.
FYI, I don’t like all of their products. I tried a stick foundation that just didn’t work for me.
While I usually stick to browns for my eyeshadow colors, I decided to try what the young girls are wearing, and this color is called Paris. It’s described as “a delicate nude-pink with a vibrant shimmer finish.”
Pro tip: Just like you shouldn’t categorize your clothing, your eyeshadow could be used as blush, right?
The best part for me is that it stays put. Even without primer, Root’s mineral pigments cling to the skin and don’t crease, fade, or migrate into lines. On hot Arizona days, I still look fresh hours later.
And since it’s made with clean, non-toxic ingredients, it feels good knowing I’m not adding any questionable stuff around my delicate eye area.
Pro tip: You can even dampen your brush slightly for a more metallic, long-wearing look.

Now let’s talk about eyeshadow on the other end of the loose powder spectrum…liquid.
If you’ve ever struggled with powder shadows accentuating texture, this is your new best friend. The formula is smooth, lightweight, and glides right over fine lines. I just swipe a tiny bit across my lid and use my fingertip to blend. No brush, no fallout, no fuss.
Pro tip: Creamy formulas can be the secret to dry skin. It’s why I talked about the blushes I used in the past.
And like Root, Stila’s formula doesn’t crease or budge, even without primer. That’s a big deal because most liquid or cream eyeshadows tend to slide around, especially on mature lids. But this one sets in place and stays comfortable all day long.
Stila makeup rates good/excellent on my Yuka app for all of the products I have tried. And you can find the brand at Target, Amazon, Ulta (they even have a Travel size), Nordstrom, Walmart, or, of course, their own site. Basically, they are everywhere.
The colors I have are
-Crema…I use it first for an all-over neutral look.
-Mauvelous…This is what I use to create the diagonal line.
-Silverlake Glimmer (this is a powder)…Because glitter is fabulous for any day and sometimes I dab this on my cheekbones too.
I like to think of makeup as part of self-expression, not something to “fix” us, but something to celebrate us. And for me, eyeshadow plays a small but mighty role in that.
If you’ve given up on eyeshadow because of creasing or texture, you might have better luck with one of my favorite eyeshadows for mature eyes.
Both work beautifully for my eyes, and with both, I can skip the primer step. It reminds me that a little color and light can make a big difference, no matter what your age.
