How To Layer In Summer-Daily Looks: Week Ending 8.15.25

The idea of how to layer in summer began with Saturday’s outfit. While you may think that the heat inhibits layering on all counts, I find there are some fun strategies.
Considering I live in Arizona, where it gets warmer than warm, I believe these options to be realistic and summer-appropriate.

So let me share a couple so you don’t have to wait until fall to have fun with layering.

FYI: All of the Quince items were gifted to me in exchange for content that I’ll be sharing on Instagram. I may write an email review about the products after I’ve had a chance to wash them. I can currently offer a discount if you’re interested. Use code INFG-25JTOUCHOFSTYLE10

My emails are my way to share fun and positive content with you from all of the sites I visit during the week. Sure, you also get my free eBook when you sign up, but that’s not the best part.
The best part is you get a daily dose of positive energy.

1-Open Weave Topper

How To Layer In Summer With Open Weave

Maybe you might not wear a cropped crochet top by itself, but it ends up being a perfect “topper” over a strappy dress, especially when you don’t want to have to finagle with a strapless bra.

Check out the dress without the topper in my TT video.

This adds no extra heat, and you might think it was one piece.

Insider tip: This crop top is from Just Be Youtiful where she cut off the top of a dress to make it look like this.

I wore yellow sandals and a scarf around my bun.

2-Loose Blouse

One of my favorites for layering in summer is to tie a lightweight button-up. While you can also wear it alone, this time, I layered it over a camisole.

This white, oversized blouse has been showcased in the past, but I recently added a variety of buttons to the outside placket to make it sassier.
After tying it at the waist, I used a brooch to pin it in place.

I’ve had to use tricks when wearing this cami alone because it’s a tad blousy (seen in this FB video), so covering up with the button-up is a nice option.

The striped linen pants are from Quince.

3-Vest

Ideas Of Fun Style For Older Women

Another great way for how to layer in summer is using vests.

For example, this Quince shirtdress is very unstructured. Instead of adding a belt, which can be hotter in the heat AND can shorten the dress, I wore a menswear vest over it.

I think it gives the illusion of structure.

Since the vest is black, I wore my black and gold sandals (I’m so glad I bought them), and then decorated the vest with gold brooches.

My necklace is my bendable necklace twisted and curved around my neck, then held together with another gold brooch.

4-Scarf

Scarves are brilliant for how to layer in summer. Especially when you have a sleeveless top, you can create “sleeves” with your scarves.
I experimented with 2 different scarves with this leopard print silk tank top from Quince and ended up wearing the one with yellow in it.

My original crew all wore this same scarf years ago. Today, I paired it with the green shorts that I’ve worn apple picking, and my leopard sandals and chain belt.

5-2 Skirts

Styling 2 Skirts Together

Layering skirts is such a non-traditional way for the idea of how to layer in the summer.

You might ask why you’d even do this, and I have countless reasons. It could be to add length to a shorter skirt. Or to give more texture to a look.

I’ve shown many ideas with this skirt in the past because its length is a bit mini.

I wore a sleeveless blouse tied up at the waist with a scarf clip.

And yes, I’m wearing 2 different color shoes. In reality, they are the same “shoe” but the straps can be changed out. And since I couldn’t decide which color to wear, I opted for 1 of each.

6-2 Dresses

When you have 2 lightweight dresses, it’s easy to layer them over each other. I recently did this same thing with a bold summer dress.

As long as the dresses are relatively flowy, they’re just as cool and fabulous for summer.

The pink dress can be seen layered over a white dress in the past. Today, I layered it under a denim/tulle dress after being inspired by Mireille.
Both of these are from Just Be Youtiful.

I added a scarf through the belt loops in the back (as seen in my email) and a brooch at the waist.

I’m giving a scarf demonstration later today, so I didn’t wear a bunch of accessories.

Final Thoughts on How to Layer in Summer

I’ve heard many women say they prefer fall fashion so they can layer their clothing. Layering is an incredible way to add different textures and personality to your clothing options.
But don’t miss this opportunity for how to layer in the summer.

You may think that adding the extras that I do is impossible with the heat, but if you’re strategic about the material and looseness of the pieces, you’ll be happily surprised with the results.
