You know how I always say that fashion is fun, style is ageless, and our closets are full of untapped potential? Much of that inspiration can be found on the platform, Pinterest. If you’ve ever thought, “Why should I use Pinterest?” the 3 of us are here to showcase some of the ideas we’ve discovered.
Quote of the day: “Great things never came from comfort zones.” Neil Strauss
I feel like I’ve been using Pinterest more and more lately, and the proof is with many of the blog posts I linked under the “Algorithm Knows You” paragraph below. Yet, today, I wanted to see if my crew could bring you ideas, too.
Is Pinterest the underappreciated stepchild? When I first learned about it, it was all about planning weddings and home organization. But now it’s much more. Pinterest is for all of us, style-loving, curious, fabulous women, no matter our age or our aesthetic.
Insider tip: Don’t concentrate on the age or body shape of the women wearing the outfits you like on Pinterest. Remember, there is no age dress code, and as I showcase on my site with a variety of women, your body deserves to be seen, styled, and celebrated.
The other important factor when asking why I should use Pinterest is remembering that style isn’t about copying someone’s look.
Instead, it’s about capturing the idea or vibe of an outfit and making it your own.
Whether you’re petite, tall, curvy, or somewhere in between, you can adapt any look to your beautiful body.
Think of Pinterest as a springboard, not a mold that you have to fit into.
My emails are my way of sharing fun and positive content with you from all the sites I visit during the week. Sure, you also get my free eBook when you sign up, but that’s not the best part.
The best part is you get a daily dose of positive energy.

My mom wanted to wear this new scarf, but I wanted her to style it in a way she hadn’t before.
Now, Charlotte has been wearing scarves longer than Pinterest has even existed (and she wears them beautifully).
But I wanted us to build new brain pathways and find another fun way to wear the scarf as opposed to tying it around her neck.

A quick search on Pinterest for “unique ways to wear a scarf” brought up ideas galore, some wild, some classic, some downright brilliant.
This is the Pinterest video we ended up using.
The advantage of this idea is that it can be worn over a top, so it’s not baring skin (heck, I’ve shown other ways you can style a scarf as a top OVER another top and not surprisingly they were Pinterest inspired).
This new Pinterest technique used a finger ring as part of the method. Granted, my mom used a scarf ring, but it was something she already had.
What we changed: Instead of tying the scarf to the pants belt loop (which makes bathroom breaks challenging), I used a safety pin on the side seam of her shirt and tied the scarf through it.

Details:
-Styling a scarf this way enables you to see the beautiful print/pattern of it. When we roll it up around our necks, you miss a lot of that.
-The scarf rings are a great way to add decoration. Found on Etsy or Amazon, they are inexpensive and easy to use. Granted, my mom’s has an owl hanging from it, you could always figure out a way to decorate yours, too.

I Love the idea of origami-ing my clothing to look different. While I often turn a cardigan or vest upside down to crop the length, I hadn’t tried something like this video before.
As always, the idea may change because your clothing could be shaped differently.
For mine, the shirt wasn’t as oversized, and I couldn’t tuck the opening under in the back, so I used it to show off the straps of my sports bra.

You know how much I preach about shopping your closet. Well, Pinterest makes that practice 1000 times easier.

Details:
-I’ve worn this “bolero” as a top as it was intended. It’s from the company Aventura, which is sustainable and eco-conscious.
-When I first saw strappy sports bras, I didn’t understand the concept, because I always wore t-shirts over them. But here’s a great way to showcase the straps (group photo of us from the back)
-I took a page from Valerie when she wore a necklace as a belt. For my variation, I safety pinned the necklace to a chain belt.
–The shoes (my favorite summer pair) are adorned with clip-on earrings.

Lesley took the idea of why I should use Pinterest and made it her own. Exactly what I’ve been trying to say in this article.
She loved this Pin, which led her to this article for styling a shirtdress, but she changed the color combination to be more colorful and bold. AND she wore a different type of column of color under the kimono. If you don’t have the exact item from your Pinterest inspiration, I bet you can create something similar.

Insider tip: There are 3 concepts to use for Why should I use Pinterest for fashion. Instead of creating the SAME look, think about this (similar to my message in this article):
1. Use the same layering idea but with different clothing, for example, in this pin, you could use any top, instead of a sheer one.
2. Combine the same colors but in the items you already own.
3. Create the same vibe with unique clothing from your closet.

Details:
-Lesley is wearing a scarf as a belt under her kimono. That’s a foreshadowing of an upcoming blog post in a couple of weeks.
-I love how she went full-on bold colors with the outfit compared to the Pinterest Pin. This is your sign to embrace bold colors so you don’t shrink into the background.
Here’s the honest answer: because you already have more style options than you think.
Pinterest doesn’t have to be about buying more stuff. It can be about rediscovering what you already have.
It’s about ideas, inspiration, and stretching those style muscles in ways that can surprise you.
A few things I’ve personally gained from using Pinterest:
And trust me when I say that you don’t have to be tech-savvy to make Pinterest work for you. Start simple:

Now here’s the insider scoop. Once you start pinning, Pinterest shows you more of what you’ve saved.
That can be helpful, but also limiting. If you only pin neutral outfits or “safe” looks, that’s all you’ll see. It’s like going to the same restaurant and ordering the same dish every time.
Life is fluid, and so should your Pinterest pinning be.
Pin a wild outfit.
Follow someone with a completely different style from you.
Click on that eclectic grandma in a giant green hat and a plaid coat.
You can’t do it wrong, and you can’t mess it up. Play…have fun…find interesting ideas that inspire you.
Here’s what I do every now and then:
Doing this teaches the algorithm to serve up more adventurous pins, which then opens up even more styling options from what’s already in your closet.
If you like seeing Pinterest inspired looks, I’ve shared this idea many times:
–Recreating Outfits
–Used a Pin for how to wear a tulle skirt
–Inspiration for grey top
–Refresh a Pinterest look
Don’t let the fear of “not being creative enough” stop you. You don’t need a fashion degree. And you certainly don’t need to be a content creator. You just need an open mind and a few spare minutes.
Insider tip: Through all of this, I would be honored if you Pin any of my photos to your Pinterest account, whether it’s from this article or any others. That helps share my message so more people can be exposed to it.
Pinterest is one of the most low-pressure, high-reward ways to bring fresh energy into your wardrobe. Think of it as your style vision board, outfit cheat sheet, and confidence booster all rolled into one.
And if nothing else, it’s a reminder that fashion doesn’t have to be serious.
Remember, style isn’t about new stuff, it’s about new eyes.
If you haven’t played around on Pinterest and think it’s too hard, then tell me and I’ll hold your hand. I’d be happy to come up with a tutorial to make it easy peasy.
In all reality, if you’re reading this, you are a perfect candidate for the question “why should I use Pinterest?”
