If you’ve been watching the style trend girls, then you know that yellow is having a moment. But we’ve heard the backlash- “Yellow is hard to wear”, or “I never know what colors go with yellow.” Well, spoiler alert: yellow might just be the most underrated styling piece in your closet.
Quote of the day: We don’t grow when things are easy. We grow when we face challenges.” Unknown
The three of us came up with foundational ideas of what color to wear with yellow.
My crew has used these same ideas with:
–Olive green pants
–Orange tops
–Print skirt combinations
So for today’s post, we each took on a different color palette:
And let me share how many compliments we received when the three of us were out and about. That’s another thing about yellow…it grabs people’s attention.

Insider tip: Mireille is also posting another option of yellow with brights on her blog, so make sure to click over and see even more options.
Let’s break it down so you’ll have a ton of ideas of what colors go with yellow.

Wearing neutrals is always the easy step on what colors to wear with yellow…or any color that is new to you.
Valerie chose a sunny yellow tank that immediately draws the eye, but then paired it with black pants and a white print kimono.
Insider tip: If you’re color-shy but want to try yellow, start by pairing it with black, beige, white, or gray.
By adding a topper over the yellow tank, you take away the focus from the yellow in case the yellow seems too bright for you.
She added a different shade of yellow with her purse and used metallics for her shoes and accessories.

Details:
-Let’s talk about Valerie’s “belt”. It’s really a necklace that she strung from side to side and attached with safety pins. How cool is that?
-Valerie’s kimono is one that I was going to purge. Hearing the statistics on how much of our “purged” items really get recycled vs sent to other countries can be depressing. That’s why I love the idea of letting friends go through the items we want to get rid of.

Mireille brought all the sunshine vibes with her yellow halter dress, and rather than toning it down, she doubled down on brightness.
Insider tip: This is the outfit she wore on the plane to come visit…more proof that traveling in a dress can be a fabulous idea (plus the bathroom visits are easier).
The denim vest is a fabulous option, but it can be removed. She used blue as her bright color of choice for this example, but there’s another example on her blog.

Details:
-The back of this denim vest has fabulous embroidery. As I always say, just as many people see you from behind, so give them something fun to look at.
-Adding a scarf to a purse is one of the easiest ways to increase chicness.

After my crew chose their preferences, I was left with pairing my yellow clothing with pastels. And I wanted to showcase something fun and different (shocking, I know).
This yellow tee (with cactus embellishments) got styled with a mint green tulle dress. Yes, the green tulle is a strapless dress, so I just wore my t-shirt over the top half to make it look like a skirt.
Granted, the t-shirt hangs too long by itself, so I used one of my favorite t-shirt hacks to tie it up. See my video showing how I did this.
I wore neutral print sandals and carried a straw purse (kind of like carrying a big stick, haha).
Insider tip: Even though my t-shirt is a brighter yellow, you can still pair it with a pastel. It’s more fun to mix and match shades within your looks.

Details:
-I’m wearing 2 faux hair buns as my ponytail. This one is from Amazon, but it started getting a bit stringy over time. So I ordered this one from Etsy, and it’s a tad lighter than my real hair. That’s why I combined them.
-Since my sandals are a neutral print, I kept my earrings and bracelets along that same line.
Another important point is that not all yellows are created equal.
We each wore a different shade of yellow in the photo, and it just proves how versatile this color really is. Whether you’re cool-toned or warm-toned, there’s a yellow out there that will flatter your complexion.
Either that or wear it on the bottom half of your body, or heck, buy a cute pair of yellow shoes to pop any outfit.

You don’t have to go full-on Big Bird to wear yellow, and it doesn’t have to look good near your face to style it.
There are so many options that we’ve explored in the past. If you want more ideas:
–Yellow dress outfits
–White top and yellow pants outfits
–What to wear with a yellow jacket
