You know I Love a good style experiment, especially when it adds flair to an outfit without needing to buy something new. Today, we’re diving into the fun and functional world of belt stacking—yes, wearing two belts (or it could be more) at the same time. It’s not just practical, but it is also a fabulous way to add color, texture, and a conversation starter to any outfit.
Each of us took a different approach to belt stacking, and of course, there are many other options too.
Now I’d like to take all the credit for this idea, but it came to me when I was watching one of Carla Rockmore’s videos. Her goal is to create a corset, but I thought it could be a great idea for other reasons.
Belt stacking reminds me of when we layered scarves and even the time we wore more than one necklace. If you have a bunch of these pieces, why only wear one at a time?
Obviously, that’s the maximalist in me speaking, but even if you are more of a minimalist, it could be a wonderful idea.
As much as I love my site, Jodie’s Touch of Style, I really enjoy putting together my daily emails. I consider my emails an extension of my blog that is chock-full of positive inspiration that one friend calls a “Variety Show.”
I include articles, videos, and posts that strike my fancy, and since I have no siblings to share with, I share them with you.

For my belt stacking, I slid the mint belt through the gold belt’s buckle and vice versa, which is why they overlap in the back. For this idea, the belts have to be very similar in width.
If you don’t have 2 belts that are the same width, you could still use two together and just place them one above the other.

I thought this navy jumpsuit would be the perfect backdrop for this mint and gold belt stacking showcase.
My preference with jumpsuits is to layer UNDER them, so I found this mesh top with a similar neckline.
Insider tip: While this jumpsuit is easy/peasy to get on and off because there is no zipper and it’s stretchy, wearing the belts negates that, LOL. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t wear it; that was just my two cents.
The belts did not “match” the top and jumpsuit, but were meant to be contrasting colors.
I wore neutral print shoes to give the outfit interest, but not take away the focus from the belt party.

-I love wearing my bendable necklace as a bracelet because it doesn’t move around like bangles, yet takes up a good amount of space on my wrist.
-A clip-on earring at the “v” of my jumpsuit added the extra that I love.
-These floral glasses have been a recent favorite of mine from Glasses Shop. They offer 35% with code JODIE35.
Insider tip: Belts can be expensive, which is why they are one of the things I always look for at thrift stores. BTW, Target has some great deals also in the above widget.

My mom’s version of belt stacking involved a leather belt combined with a chain belt.

This combo is perfect for adding texture to a solid-color outfit. The chain belt glimmers just enough to feel fancy, while the leather belt grounds it with a classic touch.

-My mom made this leopard purse out of a placemat years ago.
-While she accessorized with leopard jewelry to match the leopard belt, you wouldn’t have to. Since leopard is a combination of blacks and browns, those neutrals would also work fabulously.
Style tip: For less moving around, some chain belts have a lobster clasp, and with that type of closure, you could attach it to the belt buckle so the belts stay together.

Leave it to Lesley to rock the most playful version of belt stacking—scarves! She styled her denim tunic with two silky scarves tied at the waist. One peeked out from underneath the other, and both could be seen with the ties hanging down at the side.

I adore this option for warm weather or vacation looks.
Scarves are lightweight, easy to pack, and can double as headbands, bag decorations, or—you guessed it—belts.
Stacking two gives your outfit more personality and dimension, especially if you mix patterns or color families.

Style tip: If you want to use a scarf and it’s not long enough to go around your waist, attach another scarf to it to make a longer one.

And finally, let’s talk about Valerie’s incredible take on belt stacking. Her challenge was to combine a thin belt and a wide belt, and she even found a common theme of using 2 braided belts.
While I loved how she took this belt stacking challenge, all of us were gobsmacked by her scarf trick.
She told me she wanted some color with her scarf near her neck, but didn’t want the end taking away the focus of the front part of her look.
So she used her cardigan pins to attach the scarf in the front, and let the scarf ties drape down her back… brilliant.
Insider tip: It’s as I always say…just as many people see you from the back, so give them something to look at.

The rest of Valerie’s outfit is a beautiful foundation for the belt stacking and the scarf showcase. A white textured dress with metallic sandals and a gold purse.

-Valerie used a brooch to hold together the brown braided belt instead of tying it. You reduce the amount of bulk this way.

Style idea: You could even play around with wrapping the thinner belt around the thick belt if it’s pliable. There are no rights and wrongs, I hope you just have fun trying out some of these belt stacking ideas.

Still wondering if belt stacking is for you? Let me tell you—this is one of those tricks that works for every age, every body type, and every personal style. Whether you love bold statements or subtle tweaks, you can tailor this trend to your comfort zone.
Here’s why you need to try it:
We may have only shown 4 examples of belt stacking here, but there are endless ideas.
-2 metallic chain belts together, combining gold and silver.
-Wearing a suede belt and patent leather together gives you 2 textures in one look.
-Two wide belts create a great focal point.
-And don’t forget you could always stack 3 belts, 4 belts, or more!! The sky is the limit, just like an arm party with bracelets.

Accessories are like the exclamation point at the end of your outfit, and belt stacking is another way to say, “I’m having fun with fashion.” The best part? There are no rules. You can stack thin with wide, match or mismatch, or even experiment with texture and hardware.
I’d also like to say that any body shape can play around with belts. Even if your waist seems to have disappeared, remember, you are the boss and can wear whatever you want. Think about it. Does a belt have a warning label saying it can only be worn when there’s an indentation in the body? No.
So the next time you’re standing in front of your closet wondering how to spice things up, grab two belts (or scarves!) and start playing. You never know—you might just discover your new favorite signature style.
