It’s not surprising what last year’s top consumer complaint was. I’ve seen it many times as No. 1 on annual consumer complaint lists. It’s auto sales and repair. “Consumers rely on cars to get to work, school, doctors’ appointments and more,” said Erin Witte, director of consumer protection for the Consumer Federation of America. Complaints related to the sale and leasing of new and used automobiles – pricing, advertisements, and mechanical defects – as well as issues related to the repair of vehicles. It’s the seventh year in a row that auto sales, leases, and repairs are... Continue Reading

This recall is so large, it even made one of the national news programs recently. Stanley Black & Decker is recalling about 2.2 million DeWALT, Stanley, and Craftsman fiberglass sledgehammers in the United States and an addition 53,000 in Canada. The sledgehammer head can loosen and detach unexpectedly during use, posing an impact injury hazard to the user. The firm has received 192 reports of the sledgehammer’s head detaching, including two reported injuries to consumers’ face and head. This recall involves certain DeWALT, Stanley FATMAX, and Craftsman fiberglass sledgehammers. The... Continue Reading
Earth Day is a good reminder of what to do every day and throughout the year for the health of the planet. I spend a lot of time on it. I know many people do, too. However, only one-in-five say they try to live in ways that help the environment “all the... Continue Reading

It was upsetting to deal with possible leak in the water pipe that goes from my house to the meter box near the street. I had a repair made in 2019 for a leak and I didn’t know if that repair had failed or, since my home is about 45 years old, the water pipes were splitting due to age. Plastic pipes have a life span of about 50 years. The city notice On Saturday, March 11 at 4:20 p.m., I received a letter from the city indicating I might have a leak from my water pipes. I was furious. There’s nothing that you can do on the weekend to try to figure out what to do about the problem. I tried... Continue Reading
Fortunately, I was able to get a great deal on Black Friday. I need a new Apple iMac because I can no longer get updates for mine. It’s 12 years old. I’ve been watching the prices for the Apple 27” iMac with Retina 5K display for months. Finally, for Black Friday, Apple reduced the price $600. A technician will be coming to my home to set it up and transfer the data in December. As Black Friday sales are beginning to wane, Cyber Monday sales, which, like Black Friday sales are starting earlier, are in full swing. Both days have become intertwined as retailers offer virtual Black Friday... Continue Reading
