Unlock New Revenue Streams With AI: Monetize Your Expertise Without Starting from Scratch | Ep 113 | Bart Merrell

  1. Unlock New Revenue Streams With AI: Monetize Your Expertise Without Starting from Scratch | Ep 113 | Bart Merrell Virginia Elder 42:22

What if your next business opportunity is already hiding inside the work you do every day?

In this episode, I’m joined by Bart Merrell, the Side Hustle Samurai and author of Monetize Your Mindset, for a conversation about spotting overlooked revenue opportunities, pressure testing ideas before you waste time or Money, and using AI as a true business thinking partner.

This is not a conversation about hustling harder. It is about looking more strategically at your skills, your content, your client questions, your existing audience, and the gaps you may not be seeing yet.

As Bart put it, “Having something point out your blind spots brings them to the forefront and helps you think about them more.”

How to Find Revenue Opportunities in What You Already Know

For busy professionals, the phrase “side hustle” can sound like one more thing to manage. But Bart’s approach is different.

Instead of chasing random business ideas, he recommends starting with what you already know, already do, already need, or already enjoy. That may be a skill you developed out of necessity, a question people ask repeatedly, a process you have refined over time, or a topic you can explain better than most.

Your episodes, client conversations, content library, and audience questions may already contain clues about future offers, workshops, paid guides, educational content, or new service ideas.

Use AI as a Business Partner, Not Just a Search Tool

One of the most practical parts of this conversation was Bart’s approach to using AI for research and decision-making.

Instead of asking AI vague questions, he recommends feeding it real information: client feedback, competitor content, Reddit threads, Amazon reviews, transcripts, SEO data, and audience questions. From there, AI can help identify patterns, blind spots, objections, and language your ideal audience is already using.

Bart explained, “You can grab information, have whatever LLM you use digest and analyze that information, and give you exactly who your ideal client is, what they like, what they don’t like, what their worries are.”

That kind of research can strengthen your podcast topics, YouTube titles, lead magnet ideas, service positioning, and overall content strategy.

Pressure Test Ideas Before You Build Them

Business ideas should be tested before they consume your time, money, and energy.

Tools like SEMrush, Claude AI, ChatGPT, NotebookLM, and business analysis platforms can help you research demand, evaluate competitors, uncover search behavior, and better understand whether an idea has real potential.

Top 2 Rules for Fresh Side-Hustle Ideas:

  • The first idea is not always the best idea.
  • Ask better questions until you arrive at the strongest side-hustle opportunity.

This could mean using AI to analyze your transcripts and identify missing topics, recurring themes, unanswered audience questions, or stronger SEO angles for future episodes.

Where Podcasting Fits Into Side Hustle Strategy

Getting on video can do more than support visibility. When used intentionally, it can reveal what people want from you.

Your audience questions, guest conversations, search terms, and most downloaded episodes can all point toward new ways to serve. That might include a paid workshop, educational series, digital resource, consulting offer, speaking topic, or deeper client acquisition strategy.

But the goal is not to add more work for the sake of more work. The goal is to leverage what already exists.

If you are already recording, teaching, advising, or creating content, the smarter question is: what else could this become?

Action Steps From This Episode

  1. Make a list of what you already do, what people ask you about, and what you enjoy enough to keep exploring.
  2. Use AI to analyze real audience data, not just generate generic ideas.
  3. Look at competitor content to understand what is working, what is missing, and how you can position your perspective differently.
  4. Pressure test a business idea before building the offer, website, or content plan.
  5. Review your existing podcast episodes or content library for blind spots, recurring questions, and future monetization opportunities.

This led to a whirlwind of copywriting and audio editing endeavors, eventually liberating me from my 9-5 job and empowering me to forge my own business path. Moreover, it enabled me to live my dream of walking my kids to and from school daily.

When you entrust your raw audio and video recordings, web copy dreams, weekly newsletter musings, and blog post aspirations to me, you're gifting yourself the freedom to concentrate on serving your clients, nurturing leads, and envisioning your business's next big leap.
