How to Install and Use a Toilet Seat Riser with Clamp

🚽 Raised Toilet Seat with Arms (Clamping): Installation and Safe Use

In this video, the caregiver will learn how to install and instruct an individual on how to use a raised toilet seat with armrests and a clamping mechanism.

This raised toilet seat sits directly on the toilet bowl and is secured with a clamping mechanism for stability. This product is advertised as fitting most toilets; however, always check the fit and stability of the product before use.

Installation and Safety
(1) Installation: The seat sits on the toilet bowl and is secured using a clamping mechanism that tightens against the bowl for stability. (Instructions for tightening the clamp will vary by brand, usually involving a screw or lever near the front).
(2) Safety Check: As with any product, always check the fit and stability of the product before use.
(3) Weight Caution: Use caution when pushing up, ensuring the individual distributes even weight through both arms to maintain stability.

Transfer Instructions
Some individuals may require a physical demonstration or tactile cues in addition to verbal cues.

Verbal Cues: Sitting Down
(1) Position: Back up until you feel the toilet at the back of your legs.
(2) Hand Placement: Reach back one hand at a time (assist with hand placement as needed) to the armrests.
(3) Lowering: Bend your knees, stick your bottom out, and lower yourself down to the toilet seat, controlling the descent with your arms.

Verbal Cues: Standing Up
(1) Hand Placement: Put your hands on the safety rail (armrests) (assist with hand placement as needed).
(2) Scoot: Scoot your bottom forward in the seat.
(3) Lean: Lean forward, bringing your head or "nose out over your toes."
(4) Push: Push up with both hands evenly as you stand.
(5) Final Step: Bring one hand up to the walker (or other assistive device) at a time.
