How to Use a Standard Walker Non-Weight-bearing

🚶 How to Use a Standard Walker: Non-Weight-bearing (NWB) Gait

In this video, Cindy demonstrates how to use a Standard Walker (without wheels). This type of walker may be helpful to an individual who has had a lower extremity injury or surgery and is non-weight-bearing (NWB).

Important Safety Note
This walker is not typically recommended for someone with balance issues, especially those prone to losing balance backward, due to the need to lift the walker with each step.

How to Walk with a Standard Walker (NWB)
(1) Injured Leg Position: Hold your injured leg up off the floor, either in front of you or bend the knee, bringing the foot up behind you.
(2) Walker Placement: Move the walker forward about an arm’s length.
(3) Weight Shift: Put weight through your arms (on the walker handles).
(4) Step: Step forward with the good leg about midway into the walker frame. (5) Repeat: Repeat this process to continue walking.
