AI Overview

This article from Nationwide Payment Systems explains that a “high-risk” label is not a judgment, but a classification that requires specialized payment solutions. The article then details the unique benefits of partnering with Nationwide Payment Systems, including expert consulting, high-approval rates, advanced fraud and chargeback protection, transparent pricing (including the possibility of interchange-plus), and a commitment to ensuring compliance.

High-Risk? Nationwide Payment Systems Has Your Solution.

In the fast-paced world of business, being classified as “high-risk” can feel like a setback. But at Nationwide Payment Systems, we believe it is an opportunity for a specialized and robust solution. If you are a business owner in an industry that is often overlooked by traditional payment processors, this blog post is for you.

What Exactly Is a High-Risk Merchant Account?

A high-risk merchant account is a specialized payment processing service designed for businesses that banks and standard processors consider having a higher potential for financial risk. This is not a judgment on your business’s integrity; it is a classification based on factors like:

  • Industry Type: Certain industries, such as CBD, adult Entertainment, Travel, and online gaming, are often automatically labeled as high-risk due to their reputation for higher chargeback rates, regulatory complexities, or product volatility.

  • Business History: A new business with no processing history, or a business with a history of high chargebacks or a low credit score, might also be considered high-risk.

  • Transaction Profile: Businesses with a high volume of international sales, high average ticket sizes, or a subscription-based model can also fall into this category.

For these businesses, a high-risk merchant account is not just a convenience—it is a necessity. It is the gateway to accepting credit and debit card payments, allowing you to operate and grow your business in a competitive market.

      FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions

What is a high-risk merchant account?

A high-risk merchant account is a specialized payment processing service for businesses that have a higher potential for financial risk, as determined by traditional banks and processors. This can be due to the industry, business history, or transaction profile.

What factors determine if my business is high-risk?

A business is typically classified as high-risk based on its industry (e.g., CBD, travel), its business history (e.g., new business, poor credit, high chargebacks), or its transaction profile (e.g., high volume of international sales, high average ticket size, or a subscription-based model).

How does Nationwide Payment Systems help high-risk businesses?

We specialize in high-risk accounts by offering expert consulting, high approval rates through our network of high-risk friendly banks, and advanced tools for fraud and chargeback protection. We also ensure transparent pricing and help with compliance.

What is an interchange-plus pricing model?

Interchange-plus is a transparent pricing model where a business pays the direct interchange fee charged by the card networks, plus a small, consistent markup from the processor. This model is often more cost-effective for businesses with high sales volumes.

How do you protect my business from fraud and chargebacks?

We provide advanced fraud prevention tools, including Address Verification Service (AVS) and 3D Secure, which add layers of Security to card-not-present transactions. These tools help to verify the cardholder’s identity and reduce the risk of fraudulent purchases and chargebacks.

What is the benefit of working with a specialized provider like Nationwide Payment Systems?

Working with a specialist means you get a partner who understands your specific challenges. We can secure high-risk merchant accounts with higher approval rates, provide tailored solutions, and offer dedicated support to help you manage risk and grow your business successfully.
