This was my first time reading a short romance novella by Janica Cade, and her writing style struck me as sexy, sharp, and emotionally
layered. The story follows billionaire Ethan Wolfe, who reluctantly agrees to
take over Lane Entertainment Group at the request of its owner, Christopher
Lane. The catch? He has to keep Lane’s daughter, Ava—the creative force behind
the company—on board.
Ava,
unaware of her father’s decision to sell, is blindsided and furious, especially
after learning her father is gravely ill. When he passes away the day after the
deal is finalized, her anger toward Ethan only intensifies. Despite the
tension, Ethan rushes to comfort her, and the two give in to their mutual
attraction in a moment charged with Grief and desire.Â
The
plot thickens when Ava reveals documents stating that her cousin, Jonathan, was
meant to take over the company in the event of her father and uncle’s death.
The revelation shocks Ethan, prompting him to step back and temporarily hand
control over to Ava while the legalities are sorted out. Still, his longing for
her doesn’t fade.Â
Overall,
this was a fast-paced and steamy contemporary romance packed with tension,
emotional twists, and compelling characters. The chemistry between Ethan and
Ava felt genuine, and while one section was a little confusing, the dialogue
and scene-building were vivid and well-crafted. I’ll definitely be checking out
more from Janica Cade.Â

Some
of my favorite lines:Â
Fiona’s
face contorts with a grimace. “I can’t believe you ignored my warnings and went
through with buying that company. Have you reached out to this Jonathan guy?”
I
rub the back of my neck. “No, and I don’t plan on it, either.”
“Why
not?” I look at her dead in the eye.
“Because
I don’t care about the Money or her father’s games. We’re billionaires. We can
handle any financial hit. All I want is Ava.”Â
