Let me begin by saying “Thank You” to all our veterans, service members, peace officers, and first responders. You help keep us strong, safe, and free. Without your continued bravery and selflessness, this incredible American experiment would not endure, and we’re reminded every day that freedom is never guaranteed.
We live in challenging times. Conflict still touches parts of the world, and brave people continue to stand up against oppression and hardship. Their courage inspires global admiration and reminds us how deeply human the fight for liberty truly is.
Memorial Day was established after the Civil War—originally known as Decoration Day—to honor those who died serving our country. That war, fought to preserve the Union and end slavery, claimed over 750,000 lives and remains the deadliest conflict in American history.
Even in the 20th century, marked by two World Wars, the Vietnam War, the Korean War, and so much terrorism, the number of American fatalities did not exceed that of the Civil War. Of course, World War II was beyond globally deadly in so many ways, as were the dictatorships of the Soviet Union and The People’s Republic of China.
Today, Monday, May 26th, we’ll celebrate with backyard barbecues, Family gatherings, and a well-earned day of rest. But I encourage you to take just a few moments to reflect. Thank a veteran or peace officer. Think about those who went where the rest of us could not. Their courage secured the rights and opportunities we enjoy today.
On behalf of your team at Prosperity Financial Group, I wish you and your family a meaningful and restorative Memorial Day. God Bless America and all those who have served and those who continue to serve—our great nation.
All my best,
Elliot Kallen
