It’s 1958 when we first meet young Julius Briscoe a typical American boy from a typical American town. It’s the day before spring break, Julius is on the schoolyard where he is challenged to an unfair fight for wearing provocative socks. This threat unleashes Julius’ psychic powers which he uses to defeat his challenger.
So begins Julius Briscoe’s long strange trip from an overcrowded public school in a middle class suburb of Philadelphia to a swanky private school on the ritzy Main Line. Along the way he thwarts a convenience store hold-up by the same gang that killed his father two years earlier. He avenges his father’s death, becomes a made man in the Jewish mafia and learns a history lesson he didn’t want to learn. Julius learns to use them to prevent a couple of thugs from raping a ten year old neighbor girl, reconnects with his one true love Grace Gold, daughter of the famed tennis star Neddie Beachum, and the granddaughter of the billionaire Miles Gold who as Julius learns later also has psychic gifts.
Julius’ sprawling adventure brings him face to face with hoodlums, cheap shot artists, professional assassins, J. Edgar Hoover, smokin’ hot women, evil terrorists, the Daughters of the American Revolution, future rock and roll legends. Along the way we meet billionaires, eccentric common folk, starving artists, the former world’s greatest assassin. There’s sibling rivalries, car crashes, a Beatles concert, the Miss America Pageant, greed, avarice, backstabbing and envy. The Button Situation contains humor, sarcasm, violence, strange scientific theories and an ending that is certain to haunt.
