What Martin did next was nothing short of phenomenal, he took his personal disappointment and put pen to paper and using his knowledge of history, he penned the ultimate fantasy struggle, where characters face real life problems.
Problems you and I would be familiar with and he weaves these into the struggles of the books heroes.
Now teaching Martin knows how difficult it can be, and how our early influences either build the foundations for a steady adult life, or a life of crumbling rocks. It can look strong, but one wrong step and it all comes crashing down.
