Outstanding Thriftiness: Can You Wear Boots To A Wedding?

Winter weddings beg the question of can you wear boots to a wedding? It’s cold outside yet you still want to look dressed up and appropriate for a winter ceremony. Well the 3 of us decided that we would show you not just 1, not just 2, but 3 different styles of boots you could easily wear to a wedding.
And the best part? Most of our clothing items are secondhand.

Quote of the day: “The question should be, is it worth trying to do, not can it be done.” Allard Lowenstein

Winter weddings are a great reason to pull out your fashionable boots to pair with a fancy outfit. Even though the weather may not be tropical, you can still look fabulous and not freeze your tookus off. I realize it’s also appropriate to wear pants to a wedding, but you still may want to add in your boots to keep you warmer.

Don’t forget that there are a variety of tights and hose that can help keep you warm. I know many women have an aversion to hosiery, but there are ones that are more comfortable than what were being made 20 years ago.
Plus there are a variety of fleece lined tights (on Amazon) that can keep you super warm, even on the most frigid days.

This isn’t the first time we’ve showcased winter wedding looks so check out our other ideas

Fashionista Approved Can You Wear Boots To A Wedding

Can You Wear Boots to a Wedding?

As a fashionista, I say unequivically the answer is yes. Of course, you want to have boots that fit the occasion. Hiking boots and snow boots? Maybe not so much.

There are just so many wonderful styles of boots that would fit the bill for a winter wedding ceremony. The three of us are showcasing tall boots, ankle boots and even cowboy boots. And since this is for our Thrifty 6 group, most of our outfits are thrifted.

Since boots come in all different styles and heights just like shoes, there should be no reason you can’t wear boots to a wedding. I think you’ll love our ideas.

Lesley-Can You Wear Tall Boots to a Wedding

Can You Wear Tall Boots To A Wedding
Dress: MSK petites-thrifted~~Cardigan: Chicos~~ Boots: No label-thrifted~~ Purse: Coldwater Creek-thrifted

Lesley said: “A form of print mixing but a bit subtle?  This outfit would work for a fall, winter or spring outdoor wedding.  These boots are comfortable to stand as at a reception and the kimono is sweater weight for warmth.”

Insider tip: If you are worried that your tall boots don’t seem dressy enough for the question of can I wear boots to a wedding, then grab a black pair because those won’t stand out as much.

But Lesley’s boots fit the bill perfectly because not only are they in good shape, they have a cool decoration on the side of them.

I love how Lesley added a bright pink accent color to her look in her headband, bracelet, and purse which stands out in a wonderful way.

Charlotte-Ankle Boots in a Wedding Outfit

Brown Coat: Hycaro-thrifted~~Plaid Coat: Material given to her and she made it ~~Dress: Talbots-thrifted~~ Top: Mom made it~~ Boots: Seven Dials-Macys ~~ Necklace: thrifted~~ Earrings: Toledo Art Museum gift shop ~~ Purse: Creation by Lama-thrifted

My mom decided to go with a pair of red ankle boots that are sexy and fancy enough for a winter wedding occasion. She matches them with a red dress and looks absolutely ready to watch the bride and groom go down the aisle.

I suggested she bring a coat since it was cooler, and we wanted to have a survey on which coat you preferred. Both are thrifty because the brown embroidery one was found thrifting and the plaid one was made by my mom with material given to her by a neighbor.

I suggested the brown coat, but my mom thought it looked strange since the dress hung below it. That’s why she grabbed the plaid coat since it was longer.

And what are your feelings about a favorite coat with this look? Brown or plaid?

Charlotte layered her red dress over a long-sleeved white lace top and added a snakeskin clutch. Heck, since the outfit is for a wedding, she even pulled out a pearl necklace.

Jodie Wedding Style with Cowboy Boots

Skirt: Inc-Goodwill~~Sweater: Rachel Roy-thrifted~~ Boots: Nordstroms-Goodwill ~~ Necklace: given to me by Lesley-it was her mother’s ~~ Purse: thrifted

Cowboy boots are all the rage right now, and I figured I could dress these up to answer the question of whether can you wear boots to a wedding. I decided to go with a neutral outfit and then add interest with the boots and other accessories in green.

This skirt was found over 6 years ago when my mom and I were thrifting together. It was too big, so she expertly took out one of the panels to make it fit. The gold and embroidery always tickle my fancy.

The sweater is one of my favorites that I tend to wear every holiday season as seen here. But for this outfit, the proportions were off when I let it hang. So I came up with my hidden belt trick (which you can see in this video).

Thrifty 6 For Thrifty Wedding Style

While the other members of our Thrifty 6 group are not concentrating on whether can you wear boots to a wedding for their outfits, they will still have some fabulous inspiration of how you don’t have to spend a lot of Money for a winter wedding look.

With the fashion and textile industry being a major contributor to landfills and other environmental pollution, we decided to make it the mission of this little group to focus on second-hand items. Every month we will choose a theme and share our styles with you to hopefully inspire you to shop more preloved and less fast fashion.

Insider tip: If there aren’t many wonderful secondhand shops near you, then I included a list of online shops that I love at the end of this post.

“For this winter wedding challenge, I wore a long-sleeved lace bodycon dress by Bisou Bisou with peep-toe heels by Nine West. Both were purchased at local thrift stores years ago. My preloved vintage fur coat and thrifted gold sequin clutch complete my wedding guest attire. My scarf was made by Anne of SpyGirl from upcycled fabrics so it fits perfectly into this thrifty theme. The only things not preloved are my earrings and headband but both have been around for a long time in my formal wardrobe. I will never find it necessary to spend hundreds of dollars on special occasion clothing when I can find beautiful preloved things for a fraction of the price!”

“I saw this Maison Scotch skirt on Vinted months ago and immediately fell in love with it. But if you know me, you know that I left it for too long and it was sold before I knew it. I searched and searched, and weeks later saw the skirt twice on Vinted. Once with a matching top! It was a bit on the pricey side, but the saleswoman had only worn it once. So I wanted to haggle because that’s just what I do.
But she didn’t want to reduce the price. So I left it like that for a while. And then Jane came up with the theme, what do you wear to a winter wedding? And that was exactly the push I needed to complete the purchase. I’m not the type who attends a wedding in a super chic way, I never have those kinds of weddings either. ( if I had I would) But because of the lurex, this set is of course super festive! And those colours!”

“A luxe trouser suit is a great alternative to a dress for a winter wedding. I’d been dreaming of getting my hands on this one from the Iris Apfel x H&M collection ever since I missed out when everything sold out in a matter of minutes. Refusing to pay silly prices on eBay, I played the waiting game – for a very long time – and managed to buy the trousers first, then the jacket, and finally the shoes most recently on Vinted. I found the Zara green frilly blouse in an Oxfam shop in Nottingham – new with tags. My bag is also from Zara, bought on a trip to Madeira.”

What to wear for a Winter Wedding?…
There’s loads to consider, you need to look on point, feel comfortable, be able to throw a few shapes on the dance floor…
…and in December, you need to be warm!
I took this 1970’s duck-egg suit, raised the hemline by about ten inches and zhuzhed it with some ‘Chanel’ style buttons…
A designer silk blouse plus black and gold accessories ‘winterise’ the pretty pale blue colour and give the outfit some ‘edge’.

“I’ve never been to a winter wedding before, and I’ve been told red is a no-go at weddings (so this thrifted BCBG Max Azria dress wasn’t an option). I decided on this black number instead, which I found for $1 and in just my size. It has velvet and sparkles—very festive, indeed! I paired it with a hand-me-down pearl clutch and vintage snowflake clip-on earrings. Thankfully it was an unseasonably warm day when I took these pics, as I don’t have a matching thrifted coat!”
