I thought this quote was very powerful, because if it’s one thing I know, it is hard to work outside of our comfort zone. Even though I talk about it with our style and fashion, it takes time and yet I think it’s worth it for us to evolve.

With that in mind, I hope to inspire you to step out of your usual casual outfits even if you are just going to the grocery store. I know it seems silly, but the reality is that we feel better when we look better. There is no asterisk on that truth bomb that indicates the grocery store doesn’t count.
Seriously, I challenge each of you to “dress up” (and we all know that the definition is different for each of us) the next time you go to the store.

And evaluate it.

Why a Satin Skirt?

Texture can be very powerful in our overall outfits. When I talk about a satin skirt, what I learned is that the term “satin” refers to the weave which creates a soft, shiny finish. Because of this finish, our satin skirt outfit ideas may seem fancy or something you wear for dress up.

However, I think we get too caught up in categorizing our clothing that way. Anything shiny gives off a party vibe or celebration. And isn’t each and every day a gift?

So I’m here to give you permission to wear your fancy schmancy things even if you are sitting around the house.

Insider tip: Skirts are MUCH easier to fit than pants. There is only the waist and hips that need to be considered to “fit”. And the length, but that is easily altered. You don’t have to worry about how much circumference is needed around the thighs or the calves.
The other advantage of skirts is the bathroom convenience. Plus they create movement when you walk which is sexy!

Lesley-Untucked Top Belted for Satin Skirt Outfit Ideas

First, let me just ogle over Lesley’s outfit. Don’t you all look at it and just think it’s fabulous? So now when you read her comments, I want you all to take a minute and think twice about how you analyze your own outfits.
Because in reality, I think there are (too) many times that we talk ourselves out of something because we perceive a flaw, yet your “flaw” is not seen by others. Others will see the fabulousness of the entire look instead.

Lesley’s words: “I love the idea, look, and style of a midi satin skirt, but the committee is still out about Lesley wearing it. Because I have no waist and carry fluff just below the belt line, the smooth, sexy look of this style is hard for me to embrace.
Wearing the top over the waist and then belting it gives the illusion of a waist and hides the fluff handily.
I do love the copper color of this skirt and I might actually keep the skirt.”

Charlotte-Maxi Skirt Rolled Up

We were focusing on midi satin skirt outfit ideas, but my mom fell in love with the color (and the price) of this lilac pleated skirt on a recent trip to Kohl’s. The only thing was that the skirt was down to my mom’s ankles so she just rolled the waistband up and secured it with a belt.

I love how both Lesley and my mother wore a belt yet in different ways. You can see that tucking in the top gives a different proportion to the overall look, yet both outfits look incredible.

Insider tip: The proportions of an outfit (as discussed in this post) can be a tool used when styling a look especially if something seems off when you put items together. Yet in all reality, it is not something that always makes or breaks a look. So as with almost everything in fashion, take it with a grain of salt.

For those of you who would never have a dark purple belt in your closet, this look could be copied with a brown belt, black belt or even metallic belt. Don’t be put off by one detail that you may not have.

Insider tip: I find some of the best belts when thrifting. My favorite ones to look for are the wide elastic ones, but even the thin ones can be a fabulous deal.

Jodie-Satin Skirt Outfit Idea with a Jacket

One way around worrying about tucking in your top or leaving it untucked is to wear a jacket or cardigan as part of these satin skirt outfit ideas. The jacket I chose hits me about mid-hip yet I think it would be just as cute with a cropped jacket or even a duster-length one.

Insider tip: If you have a longer jacket and aren’t sure about the proportions, then do what Lesley did with her top, and put the belt OVER the jacket. Then take a selfie. Still not sure? Send it my way, and I’ll give you my two cents.
It may or may not work, but you won’t know until you try it.

My color combination is basically a monochromatic pink look with white and turquoise accents. This may not be your usual fall look, but I thought the combat boots and rancher’s hat gave it an autumn vibe.

Insider tip: Colors for certain seasons are not a rule. Fashion is much more flexible now, so wear the colors you like no matter what time of year. It’s also a way to look more modern.

The turquoise pops of colors aren’t all the same. Some are more mintish and others are more teal. Yet I like how they pop against the pinks and whites.

Insider tip: Don’t underestimate the power of a whimsical purse whether it’s a totally different color, texture, or shape. It can seem very old-fashioned to always carry a boring, black purse.
