Elder Abuse is an unfortunate reality for many women.*
Women often experience violence across their lifespan, and we
know that being exposed to violence early in life, whether that is witnessing or being the victim of it, drastically increases the risk of experiencing violence, particularly domestic violence, later in life
Join Phyllis Ayman, Rubina Chaudhary and guest Kalley Henderson, crisis team coordinator at the Surrey Women’s Centre in Surrey, BC for the discussion on elder abuse.
The Surrey Women’s Centre serves all those experiencing gender
based violence, and this includes older women. Women are expressing that they feel left out of the conversation around gender-based violence, they didn’t think services for women experiencing violence or fleeing abuse applied to them. Social Isolation, often a hallmark of abusive Relationships, creates other challenges.
Thus, developing personalized safety plans & empowering women is a priority at Surrey Women’s Centre.
