Feeling Lucky?
January 31st, 2024

Perhaps our so-called ‘lucky charms’ are just life jackets we cling to, when in reality, we are all capable swimmers, just waiting for the right moment to dive in and swim on our own. Source  Continue Reading

As I read my daily devotional, the author used the phrase “diddly squat.” The two words just jumped off the page at me. Just this week, I heard someone else use this term. I will often say, I don’t know diddly squat about that or that doesn’t amount to diddly squat. Diddly squat is an informal expression that means virtually nothing or almost nothing. It’s often used to emphasize the insignificance or lack of value of something. One of my biggest leadership mistakes has been quickly dismissing something as not amounting to diddly squat. My excuse or rationalization is we don’t have... Continue Reading

Do you ever have one of those blah days? The energy level is simply low. Nothing special that you can put your finger on but just blah.  Having a hard time focusing. Creative juices are simply dried up.  Well, that’s me today. I am in a blah mood and I don’t know why. I called Mom and Pop Joe, and five minutes into the conversation, Mom said, “You sound tired.” I never could fool Mom!   As you know, I love to share personal stories — especially when they are funny. Well today, I don’t see or feel the humor. Yet, I feel compelled to write about this blah day. Why?  Because blah... Continue Reading

Happy New Year, friends! A new year, a fresh start is upon us. But before we jump into 2024, let’s refresh ourselves with the topics that resonated with you this past year. What better way to start fast in the new year than to build on what we have already learned together?  It’s not surprising that personal growth and reaching your full potential were of peak interest in 2023 and are poised to continue to be a priority in 2024. The following were my 5 most popular blogs in 2023. I hope these posts are helpful pieces to revisit — or delve into for the first time.   God Has a Purpose for... Continue Reading

Shopping Takes Grit

Shopping Takes Grit &Raquo; Unknown 4 E1703631959488 300X219 1

Just look at our little warrior grandson, Porter! 😂 This shopping spree was a battle of epic proportions — Porter vs the department store. It’s a drama we’ve all starred in!  (CeCe who gets stronger by the store, has driven me to this point on many occasions.)  Porter, like he’s auditioning for a melodrama, showcases the universal ‘I-can’t-take-it-anymore’ stance. We all hit these moments of exhaustion, from work, family, and life’s never-ending favors queue. But hey, what’s a little drama without a silver lining? 🌈 Let’s take a page from Porter’s playbook, folks!... Continue Reading

Oh, dear friends, it’s that wonderful time again. Christmas trees springing up, fireplaces crackling, mistletoe hanging, presents wrapped and a few too many relatives around the same table. Sure, you may be thinking – another crazy Christmas season. Last year, I was so wrapped up in the tinsel and trappings of the holiday season that I nearly lost sight of what it was all about – love, celebration, and a deep gratitude for the life we’ve been blessed with. We are celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. This year, I’ve made a pledge to myself to keep the holiday spirit... Continue Reading

CeCe and I are hosting our family two weekends before Christmas at our cabin near Eagle Lake. All eight grandkids are here and it has been real — it has been fun, but I’m not sure it’s still real fun! LOL! Lots of energy and joyful voices from sunrise to after sunset. We are so blessed and it’s such a wonderful time for the kids to get to know each other and develop lasting bonds and memories. It’s our last morning, and I am up at my usual 6 a.m. putting the coffee on and turning the oven to 420 so I can cook biscuits. After drinking about half of my first cup of coffee, I begin to hear... Continue Reading

When Good Intentions Go Bad

Our good pal, Father Albeen has been left as the last option for the 7 a.m. livestream mass, which also has a church full of parishioners. It’s basically the Oscars of our parish but with less red carpet and more Hail Marys. The original headliner for the day has messed up his timekeeping and now it’s up to Father Albeen to save the day. The poor chap barely has time to brush his teeth and shower before he’s shimmying into his Sunday best and making a mad dash for the garage. Hitting the garage opener, he dives into his car, cranks up, throws it into reverse and BANG! He rams the garage... Continue Reading
