S2:E27 Dementia Wisdom for the Holidays
Hello Care Partners, As we head into another Holiday Season it is good to be reminded of the many challenges headed our way in addition to many suggestions to navigate this season with grace for your person living with Dementia.
This season can be overwhelming especially if we are trying to keep up with the way it has always been done in the past. Please take my advice and don’t set yourself up for extra challenges and choose to step back and re-evaluate the season.
How do you celebrate the holiday? Do you need to continue as before and hope for the best? I hope NOT! Let’s learn to pick our battles wisely and choose what needs to happen and what we can let go for now.
Call a family meeting and delegate the responsibilities. Be brave and say no when you are asked for extra activities. It’s a season but we need to take care of you and your loved one.
We need to find the balance between overstimulation and social isolation which can lead to Depression. Tune in to see the many challenges and ways to navigate the season with better choices to serve YOU and your Loved One!

Who am I?
Teresa is a seasoned Registered Nurse with almost 40 years of clinical and leadership experience. She is the founder and owner of A Better Approach to Memory Care and brings personal experience to her wealth of knowledge after spending a decade caring for her own Mom with Dementia. She has experience in many medical areas, including Emergency and Trauma, Labor and Delivery, OR, ICU, Medical Surgical, Rehab, Hospice, Home Care, IV Specialist, Private Duty Care, Caregiver Trainer, and Assisted Living and Memory Care Director. Once her Mom was showing symptoms she became a Certified Dementia Practitioner then went to North Carolina to train under Teepa Snow with Positive Approach to Care (PAC). She is still a Certified Independent Trainer with PAC. At A Better Approach to Memory Care, Teresa can be hired as a Speaker, Staff Trainer and Family Consultant. She also trains first responders like Fire and Emergency Medical Service providers.
