If You Want Success & Happiness In Your Career, the Right Environment Matters! S4E39

  1. If You Want Success & Happiness In Your Career, the Right Environment Matters! S4E39 Sheri Miter- Certified CliftonStrengths & Career Coach 30:08

Welcome back to the Discovering Your Calling podcast! This episode is part 2 of a 3 part series where we are  taking a deep dive into what happens when your dream career doesn't turn out the way you expected.

My husband, Tom, and I recently embarked on what we thought would be the adventure of a lifetime – living and traveling on a sailboat. But as we settled into our new Lifestyle, something unexpected happened. Tom, who typically thrives in any situation, started to feel lost and unfulfilled.

It took some time and digging, but the culprit eventually revealed itself: the environment. Living on a boat, with its constant need for repairs and unpredictable nature, simply wasn't compatible with Tom's natural strengths and talents.

This episode is all about unpacking this realization and exploring the importance of being in the right environment for your individual needs. We'll delve into:

  • How your CliftonStrengths themes can reveal your ideal work environment. Tom shares his personal experience using his Strengths report to identify the mismatch between his talents and the demands of boat life.
  • What happens when we are not working in our natural strengths.   What once were your superpowers can turn into roadblocks in the wrong environment!
  • Practical tips for thriving in the wrong environment. Even if you can't change your situation immediately, there are steps you can take to make the most of it and protect your well-being.
  • Resources for finding your perfect fit. Tom and I both emphasize the importance of seeking guidance and support as you navigate your career journey.

Key Takeaways:

  • Your natural strengths and talents are like your DNA – ignoring them can lead to unhappiness and Burnout, even in your dream job.
  • Don't be afraid to course-correct! Sometimes, the best path forward involves letting go of your initial plans and embracing a new direction.
  • Invest in yourself and your career journey. Resources like CliftonStrengths assessments and Coaching can help you make informed decisions and find your perfect fit.

Remember, life is too short to be miserable in your job. If you're feeling lost or unfulfilled, take action! Listen to this episode, explore your strengths, and start creating a work life that truly supports your unique needs and talents.

Until next time, keep discovering your calling!

Sheri Miter Serial Entrepreneur

Sheri Miter is a serial entrepreneur. Her first business was selling painted rocks to neighbors when she was 7! This entrepreneurial spirit led her to many failures but also some huge successes, such as a Chimney Cleaning business with her husband Tom, a professional firefighter, and eventually a business as a Mary Kay sales director. While in Mary Kay, Sheri led her team to six-figure years multiple times, and YES, she drove the iconic pink Cadillac for part of her career!

Despite her success as a Sales Director in Mary Kay, Sheri found herself at a crossroads after 25 years. She began to question if this was the path she truly wanted for the next decade of her life. Even after achieving her best year, she felt a sense of weariness and asked herself, 'Is it ever going to be enough?' This internal struggle led her to a brave decision- to step away from her role as a Sales Director and embark on a new journey. This journey led her to become a Gallup Certified CliftonStrengths Coach. Today, Sheri has crafted a life she loves, assisting other highly successful women to discover their 'what’s next' career. She is passionate about working with women who have achieved success making the money, but are now eager to make an impact by unleashing their God-given strengths and embracing their true calling!

When Sheri isn’t busy with her clients or recording a new podcast, she cherishes her time with her grandkids and embarks on exciting adventures with her husband. Their escapades often include the beach, biking, or out boats. At the end of a fulfilling day, they savor the beauty of the sunset with a cocktail in hand, a testament to Sheri's belief in enjoying life's journey.
