Dr. Feylyn Lewis, Ph.D. discusses how she became a Caregiver at age 11 and how it has affected her life, how her brother Ferrell left college to care for Feylyn and their mom. We are happy to report  Ferrell did go back to finish college!

Dr. Feylyn discusses the importance of Mental Health for young caregivers, and what their struggles are such as anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, and self-harm. Betsy and Dr. Feyln discussed how important it is for parents and guardians to keep communication lines open and to encourage young caregivers to have fun and do Self-Care!  Dr. Feylyn Lewis, Ph.D. discussed how educators can get involved when they see a student struggling. Betsy has often said, “Our children are the hidden victims of the war against  Alzheimer’s!”

There are many reasons why a young person can be a Caregiver! Many young people found themselves, caregivers, during the pandemic! Dr. Feylyn Lewis, PhD. also discussed young caregivers can have ” Caregiver  PTSD “!  Betsy is forever grateful that “Caregiver PTSD ” is finally being recognized!
