About My Guest Bruce Chalmer Early in my career as a psychologist, a colleague asked me, “How do you do couples Therapy, anyway?” I’m sure he realized it was a facetious question, especially with the expectation that the answer will be equally brief, but I thought for a second and said, “I suppose when you boil it down, I’m basically telling people, ‘Be kind and don’t panic.’” Sometime later I added a third clause, and the formula became “Be kind, don’t panic, and have faith.”Those seven words have proven a useful guide, not only for me but for many of the couples I’ve worked with. What helps couples? Essentially, Therapy is about offering the three principles of the formula. As I’ve worked with couples over the past three decades, I’ve realized that the third principle–have faith–is the key that unlocks the other two. I don’t mean religious faith, necessarily, but faith as a mindset that reality is right to be what it is.You can check out the “Couples Therapy in Seven Words” podcast I do with my wife, Judy Alexander, to get a sense of how I am as a guest.https://brucechalmer.com/https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/couples-therapy-in-seven-words/id1517231158If you are looking for a Personal Coach contact Karen at #YESICAN Coaching with Karen[email protected]440 526 1530
