As “Boomer in Chief” of the National Association of Baby Boomer Women, Anne is passionate about educating, empowering and enriching the lives of Baby Boomer Women, as we age beyond our middle years and enthusiastically launch ourselves into life’s next stage – which most people call old age. But while, chronologically we’re now all aged somewhere between 58 and 76 (born between 1946 and 1964), as a group we’re not ready to leave the playing field just yet… 

We Boomers know aging doesn’t have to diminish us. We still have a lot to offer the world, and we continue to be ready and willing to enthusiastically participate. Actively involved with a number of Boomer-focused organizations and committees, Anne keeps a steady finger on the pulse of this still-spirited generation, with the goal of helping us all to enjoy life, stay healthy and continue to live lives that are rich in every sense of the word.

Beyond that, Anne is dedicated to helping facilitate positive interaction between Baby Boomers and the hard-working younger generations who follow behind us. We need to recognize that generational “sticking points” do exist, but overall, we’re all working toward similar goals. Achieving those goals just may take all of us working together.  

Currently there are at least four generations in the workplace: Baby Boomers, Generation X, Millennials and Generation Z. (We say at least four because there actually are some very hardy Greatest Generation folks still in the workforce – and still “alive and kicking.”) Sometimes this age range makes communication challenging.

Anne suggests that it’s time we Boomers adopt the role of knowledgeable elders, and work to help resolve these conflicts. The younger groups are working hard at readying themselves to “take the world’s reins” and continue building on our efforts to move society in a positive direction. Since we fought our own “intergenerational wars” in the 60s and 70s, it’s time to take what we learned and pay it forward.

Renee Balcom is a passionate advocate for educating Baby Boomers around the business of care, both for their parents and other loved ones.

After working with hundreds of people who are classified as age-ed and needing care, she came to realize that most of the information being provided to us about aging and care is wrong; most of our beliefs about aging and care are wrong, and that her mission is to set the record straight.

To date, Renee has spent more than a decade consulting and providing services to families looking for care solutions for their loved ones, including the costs of maintenance and how to screen for and locate reliable local providers and resources. She has found a niche in helping people navigate the Healthcare system, make informed care decisions, and cope with the challenges of caregiving. 

In the process, she realized that overwhelmed family caregivers need an easy to use ad effective way to quickly find appropriate and professional solutions. From this realization her Silver Lining Network & Directory was born.

Nina Bard is co-owner of BRD Sport, a family-owned company dedicated to health, fitness and lifestyle. She and her husband started the business 15 years ago, with the intention of private labeling a line of high-quality compression bracing made 100% in the USA. While accomplishing that, Nina says she soon realized their orthopedic supports needed to be sold direct to consumer. Their ideal client is an active person who needs help to remain active and relieve pain no matter whether the pain results from a medical condition or a sports injury.

According to Nina, “We provide the kind of bracing that helps keep people active, regardless of their age. Our products offer ‘Relief in Motion.’ People deserve access to products that really help them, whether the problem is a medical condition, injury related, proactive or recovery.”

While Nina’s husband supervises BRD’s manufacturing facility, Nina handles social media, sales, bookkeeping, advertising, invoicing, hiring and shipping, as well as marketing. An important part of her marketing role is recognizing niche markets their products can serve.

As an example, she says “I had many friends that were being injured and I kept hearing they were injured while playing Pickleball.  There is a lot of lateral movement and they were hurting their ankles.  That is when I looked into the sport of Pickleball and realized BRD’s products could help in many ways. This is a sport that is exploding and a great many of the players are Baby Boomers.  We could help both preventatively and with recovery.

“I have worked with many of the pros in Pickleball and learned a lot about the game and the industry.  We have met people in every state who are playing Pickleball and looking for ankle support.  We like to say: ‘Don’t let pain keep you out of the game!’”

Prior to starting BRD, Nina held a variety of positions, both paid and volunteer, garnering a wide range of work experience in the process. Interacting with people has always been her focus. While she worked at Rutgers University, where she was involved in developing the first Physician Assistant (PA) program, and in a travel agency, she says it was at the bagel store she owned prior to started BRD, where she really learned to be an entrepreneur.

“We designed the property.  I learned to hire and train people.  I learned to operate machinery, order products, schedule, etc. The food business is very hard and I learned many more skills. Again, I interacted closely with all kinds of people. I was actively involved with both employees and customers.”  

When she’s not working, Nina enjoys spending time with her six grandchildren.  

It is necessary for us to teach children how to think…not what to think.”

Gramps Jeffrey

Gramps Jeffrey’s children’s book, I Don’t Want to Turn 3, explores what goes through a toddler’s mind that parents are so desperate to understand. It is based on the true experiences he has had with his 6 grandchildren that were born 2 each to his 3 Millennial daughters.

Gramps Jeffrey is the pen name for Marc Joseph whose first book The Secrets of Retailing…How to Beat Wal-Mart was written to help entrepreneurs and small businesses compete against the big guys. Arianna Huffington read his book and asked him to contribute to the Huffington Post. He has written over 100 articles about small businesses, education, the homeless and several other nonprofit topics dear to all of us.

Gramps and his lovely wife Cathy live in Scottsdale, Arizona where 2 of his grandchildren live. 2 more live in Austin, Texas and 2 in Orlando, Florida.

Doug Sohn

I am a trial lawyer, inventor, patent-holder, entrepreneur, martial artist, husband and father of six. At age 67, after a near-death experience gave me a moment of clarity, I reinvented myself and began a new career as a personal development coach and speaker.

Today, my mission is to help people our age understand that we can still reach the dreams we haven’t reached yet and that we need to ignore what society tries to tell us about what it means to be our age—which is that we’re basically done and need to shut up, sit down and let the next generation take the lead.  I don’t buy that at all. 

My mission is to demolish the stereotype that people over 60 are done growing and evolving. I believe, and I encourage people to believe “I’m Never Done Growing”.  That’s the first thing you’ll see when you go to my website, www.successaftersixty.org , as well as my Facebook page or anywhere else I share my message. I think that’s one of the most important new beliefs Baby Boomers need to adopt.

Ronald J. Surz is co-host of the Baby Boomer Investing Show and president of  Target Date Solutions and Age Sage. Target Date Solutions serves institutional investors, namely 401(k) plans while Age Sage serves do-it-yourself individual investors. 

His passion is helping his fellow Baby Boomers at this critical time in their lives when they are relying on their lifetime savings to support a Retirement with dignity. This is why, in 2021 he also wrote and published a book: Baby Boomer Investing in the Perilous 2020s: How to Live a Dignified Retirement.

Ron recognizes that most of this country’s 78 million Baby Boomers will spend much of this decade in the Risk Zone spanning the 10 years before and after Retirement. Losses in the Risk Zone can make remaining lifetimes far less comfortable, and could make Boomers a burden on society because $50 trillion is at stake.

In the book he also explains why in this decade following the Roaring 2010s, the odds of avoiding a market crash are incredibly low. In fact, he says, inflation and other threats are likely to burst bubbles in stock and bond markets, creating significant investment losses. His advice for Baby Boomer: Protect your savings at this critical time.
